A collaborative study with Yuta Yamamoto of Wakayama Medical University, has revealed that HYA (10-hydroxy-cis-12-octadecenoic acid), a metabolite produced by gut bacteria, suppresses postprandial hyperglycemia (a rapid spike in blood glucose levels after eating) in a type 1 diabetes rat model.
These findings suggest that HYA may offer a new therapeutic approach for patients with type 1 diabetes suffering from postprandial hyperglycemia.
The results of this study have been published online in the journal Acta Diabetologica.
